Jane Bortz

With great sadness, we announce the passing of ALICE "Jane" PRIOR LAMBORN BORTZ on May 24, 2023. She was the devoted mother of Martha D. Lamborn of San Clemente, CA, Howard F. Lamborn IV of Towson, MD, John R. Bortz of Owings, MD and Scott C. Bortz of Charlotte, NC. She was survived by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was widowed from Ensign Howard F. Lamborn III, and divorced from the late Kilmer S. Bortz. 

Having been widowed at age 24 with two children ages 3 and 1, Jane overcame many obstacles and worked diligently to provide for her children. Family was always first and her beautiful smile and generous laugh will be missed by all.

She enjoyed watching Orioles baseball, playing golf, bridge, rummy, travel,  reading, dogs and board games with family. She worked as a school administrator, life insurance agent and realtor. Never one to be still, later in life she became a census taker, and volunteered at her local voting station. For many of her years, she was a devout member of Towson United Methodist Church. 

The family will receive friends at an informal commemorative service on Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM in the Lee Funeral Home, 8200 Jennifer Ln, Owings, MD 20736. A private military funeral and interment will be held on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
