Alphonso Blakeney, Sr. was born September 16, 1953 to Zosima Marie (nee Itorallez) and Roy Robert Blakeney, Sr. in Washington, D.C. He was known as Poncho to his family. He was one out of nine children. He married Linda Anne Mudd on August 15, 1975. Alphonso was a United States Army Veteran earning the Specialist E4 rank before his honorable discharge in 1977. He attended the District of Columbia Public Schools during his formative years. While in the army, he earned his High School Diploma. After his military career, he received his Associate of Applied Science degree in Printing from the University of the District of Columbia. He was the brother of Rolando Blakeney, Barbra Harris, Patricia Marshall, Daniel Blakeney and Tony Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Roy, Jr., Michael, Sr. and Jerome, Sr. He was the devoted father of LaTasha Renee Bradford, Monica Patricia Lester, Takisha Dawn Jackson, Alicia Margaret Blakeney, Veronica Joyce Adams and Alphonso Lopez Blakeney, Jr. He also leaves behind 5 son-in-laws, 1 granddaughter-in-law, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Alphonso will be remembered by his endless abundance of family, friends and relatives. Alphonso was an avid Redskins fan and loved the Motown/Temptations era. Alphonso will always be remembered by his smile, laughter, singing voice and his hand dancing skills.
