Former Maryland resident Alva C. Gibson, 91, October 20, 2015, passed away at Manor House Assisted Living in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Laura Gibson (Guffee). Mr. Gibson was born September 12, 1924, in Ronceverte, West Virginia, to Yeager and Mary Gibson. The family moved to Washington, D.C. while he was very young. He enlisted in 1942 to serve in the U.S. Air Force. He was particularly proud of his service during WWII. After the conflict ended, he worked in Washington, D.C. for many years in the Department of Defense as the Deputy Comptroller of the Air Force, earning the highest honors for a civilian employee. Mr. Gibson spent 40 years in his position with DOD. He was involved with the Clinton Boys & Girls Club as a coach, then later with the American Legion Post 259 in Clinton, MD as a baseball coach. He was an avid Redskins fan who held season tickets for more than 40 years. He was also an ardent Nationals fan. He is survived by his sister, Louise Peace (Calvin), daughter, Terri Ann Kaiser (Dale) and his son, Christopher Alva Gibson (Cherie), grandchildren: Lauren and Evan Kaiser, Jordan and Garrett Gibson. Many nieces and nephews will miss him.
