Anita Richmond Johnson

December 3, 1941 — September 22, 2021

On September 22, 2021 Anita Richmond Johnson, passed from this life at the age of 79 years. She will be joining her late husband, Larry where they will celebrating what would have been their 57 wedding anniversary. Born in Pittsburg, PA on December 3, 1941, the daughter of Lillian and Clifford Richmond. Anita was an extremely gifted woman who had natural talent and a love for horses and all animals. Her love for her family and animals alike was always the center of her world. Wherever her heart led her, she pursued it passionately and with all her strength. Anita grew up in South Carolina where she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville. A Christian based and Fine Arts University allowed Anita to deepen her faith while gaining her education. She began planting seeds from a giving heart and deep love for others and animals. Then she attended Jefferson College where she obtained her Nursing Degree. Anita worked at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD where she met Lawrence Henry Johnson, Jr who worked there as an orthotist. The couple were married on September 26, 1964. She later worked at Southern Maryland Hospital as an OR nurse before retiring. Anita lived life amplified. She loved hard and fast with a bigger spirit than this world could contain. Anita and Larry welcomed their new family of 4 children, Laura, Lisa, Michael and Mark. Her life was centered on making sure that her family, friends and animals had a wonderful life and amazing experiences. In 1984, Anita and Larry purchased a horse farm which became known as Willowbend Farm. The farm gave her the wide open spaces that started in her heart. It was there that she taught many children horseback riding and offered a summer camp. Anita spent her time tackling challenges, making new friends and building a life that offered her time to bond with her children and then their children. Her sacrifices for her children were many and large but she always did what was best for each of them with a full heart. Her clients, both 2 and 4 legged, trusted and loved her for her diligent and warm care. Devoted mother of Laura Johnson (Emily Merkel) of Upper Marlboro, Lisa Johnson Caruolo (Charles) of St. Leonard, MD, Michael Johnson (Victoria) of Mechanicsville, MD and Mark Johnson (Gwendolyn) also of Mechanicsville, MD; Loving Nana of Jim, Greg, Nick, Matt, Nathan, Ian, Trevor, Jeremy, Kaden, Ben, Kiera, Mike, Shaelyn, Andrew and Kylee; Dear sister of Cecelia Pigg (Phillip) and the late Phillip Richmond (Surviving wife Gayle) and Steve Richmond (Surviving wife Rhonda Fritz).
