Annabelle Thomas

Annabelle Thomas, 91, of Port Republic, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27 of natural causes at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. She was visited and comforted by family there prior to her passing. Annabelle was born on January 5, 1928 in what is now Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania. She was the seventh of eight children born to Amos and Mary Wagner. She moved to Washington, DC in 1945. She was 17, straight out of high school, and on her own. She worked as a clerk for the Navy Personnel department where she met and married a young seaman, Rodrick Thomas. They remained married until his death in 1992. They moved to Port Republic, MD in 1988 and she lived there until 2015 when she moved to an assisted living facility in St Mary’s County MD. She is survived by her daughter Brenda Besore and husband Bruce, son-in-law Tommy Cook Sr. and by her grandchildren Jimmy Cook and wife Kim, Tammy Naumoff, Jennifer Shettle, Rick Besore and wife Alexandria, Scott Besore and wife Elizabeth as well as 10 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodrick Thomas, daughters Mary Ann Cook and Linda Betts, son-in-law Dave Betts, and grandsons Steven Betts and Tommy Cook Jr. Annabelle was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was always ready to help care for family members and helped raise several of her grandchildren while their mothers and fathers worked. She was 45 when she learned to drive and treasured the freedom that brought. In later years she and several friends bowled together in a league and made the rounds of the various church suppers common in southern Maryland. She was the center of a large, multi-generational family, loved by all, and will be sorely missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Friday, December 6 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. where a Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736.
