USAFPassed away November 20, 2012 at Collington Life Care Community in Mitchellville, Maryland.Mr. Longacre was born in 1917 in Bucks County Pennsylvania. He grew up on a farmAnd developed a lifelong love of gardening. Mr. Longacre went on to earn a chemical engineering degree, graduating from Penn State University in 1939; and an advanced degree from MIT in meteorology. A Masters of Educating Degree in Secondary School Counseling from the University of Maryland followed his retirement from the Air Force.His volunteer activities included tax counseling for the elderly, Chairman of the Collington Foundation, as well as multiple years of service on the Collington Board of Directors and various committees at Collington.Mr. Longacre served his country during WWII with a three year tour in Great Britain forecasting the weather for the bomber strikes over Germany and France. His later Air Force career included assignments in Washington, DC, Alaska, Florida, and Japan where he was accompanied by his wife Peggy.A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Collington on December 1, 2012 at 2 pm. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery 11301 Crain Hwy Cheltenham, Maryland with His wife Peggy Davidson Longacre, who pre-deceased him in 1996.Internment private.He is survived by his sister Anna Schultz and a brother David Longacre along with several nieces and nephews residing in Pennsylvania and Georgia To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Arthur M.
