Sunrise June 21 1947 – Sunset April 26 2016 Avella was a Washington DC native, born to the late Andrew A Simms and Alma “Lucy” Simms on June 21, 1947. She attended McKinley Technology High School in Washington DC, graduating in 1966. Avella went on to work for the Federal Government for 8 years before deciding to go on to pursue her true passion of working in the medical field. Avella graduated to become a Medical Assistant in the early 1990’s and furthered her medical career by studying Phlebotomy. Avella enjoyed Phlebotomy so much she became an instructor at SANZ Medical School in the late 1990’s. Avella continued to work as a Phlebotomist for Sunrise Medical Lab. Outside of her career, she enjoyed bowling, singing, dancing, spending time with family, and helping others. She was involved in a number of community clubs and organizations such as CYSTAS, Capital City Vanners, and the Camp Springs Senior Citizens Community Center. Avella was the second of three children. She was preceded in death by her sister Antoinette Simms Roland and brother Andrew A Simms, Jr. Avella leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Andrea Simms Truesdale and son Lamar Harold Ramsey; along with seven grandchildren: Donte, D’Andray, SeNae, Kelsey, Leia, Kalena and Lamar Jr.; and three great-grandchildren: Layla, Major, and Harlem.
