Azalee Miller Callaham\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n1919-2009 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAzalee Miller Callaham, 90, a devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt, departed this life on October 10, 2009. Azalee, a long time resident of Washington, D.C, was born in Abbeville, South Carolina on April 14, 1919 to the late John and Anna Miller. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAzalee was educated in the public school system in South Carolina and loved the Lord and reading her Bible. Even in her last years, Azalee could quote the 23rd Psalm and the Beatitudes quicker than most Bible scholars. Azalee accepted the Lord at a young age and joined the Fairfield Baptist Church in South Carolina. Upon moving to Washington, Azalee joined the Mount Horeb Baptist Church where she served faithfully. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nIn 1943, Azalee married the late Thomas L. Callaham, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a mechanic by trade. Azalee was introduced to her husband by her beloved brother, Matthew Miller who served in the military with Thomas. Azalee was married to Thomas for fifty one years and from their union was born their one and only child, Delores, who preceded her parents in death. Azalee was retired from the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Clinton, Maryland, where her husband, brother Matthew and nephew Jeffrey also worked. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nAzalee was an excellent seamstress, regularly read the Washington Post, enjoyed swimming, learning to use the computer and participating in senior activities sponsored by the DC government and her church. Azalee was also known for opening her home to anyone who needed a place to stay. Azalee will be sorely missed and is survived by her nephews Jeffrey Miller (Rose), Samuel Jr. Miller, John Miller, Frederick Miller, and Hollis Miller, two nieces Gladys Jackson and Anna Smith (Willie), sister-in-law Artris Miller and a host of other relatives and friends. Her brothers Matthew Miller and Samuel Miller, Sr. and sisters Vashti Clinkscales, Lenora Moorefield and Bessie Logan preceded her in death.\n \n \n \nA precious one from us has gone\n \nA voice we love is still\n \nA place is vacant in our hearts\n \nWhich never can be filled.
