Barbara Jackson AshBarbara Jackson Ash, 48, beloved wife and mother died Saturday evening, Sept. 15, in a tragic accident on Rt. 2 southwest of Annapolis. She leaves behind her husband, E. Lawrence Ash Jr., and her daughter, Jessica Anne Ash, age 9. Barbara and Lawrence were also looking forward to adopting an infant boy in Guatemala, Evan Lisandro Vicente Perez by years end. The family recently spent vacation time in Guatemala City, Guatemala caring for and thoroughly enjoying Evan. Barbara was active in her Church, Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Community, Owings, MD regularly serving in several volunteer capacities. She supported the Ballet Theater of Maryland in Annapolis, where her daughter Jessica has, for several years, been a very active member of the several ballet casts and in numerous roles for each including her favorite, the Nutcracker, performed in December. Barbara was an active and devoted Kuk Sool Won, martial arts student achieving a yellow belt and working on her red belt. Barbara was also an active volunteer in her daughters girls scout troops 6741 & 2285 and strong supporter of several womens cancer foundations. Barbara enjoyed several monthly book clubs and shared her love for gardening and knitting with all she came in contact with.Barbara was born in Roanoke, Virginia. She graduated from the College of William and Mary and obtained her Masters degree from George Washington University. She was the Director of Research for the Maryland Association of Community Colleges where she worked for the advancement of educational opportunities for others.In addition to her husband and daughter, Barbara leaves behind her mother, Doris M. Jackson of Roanoke, brothers Dan Jackson of Westford, Massachusetts and Gordon Jackson of San Jose, California, in-laws Larry and Fern Ash of Keene, New Hampshire and numerous members of the extended family.A memorial gathering will be held at the Lee Funeral Home Calvert, P.A., 8125 Southern Maryland Blvd. (Rt. 4 & Fowler Rd.), Owings MD on Friday, Sept. 21 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and on Saturday, Sept. 22nd from 9:30 am until a Memorial Mass at 11 am at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 1601 W. Mount Harmony Road, Owings, MD 20736. A reception will follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the "Barbara Ash Endowment" for low income, first year community college students by calling the Maryland Association of Community Colleges at 410.974.8117.Barbara was a loving, talented, caring and tirelessly giving person who will be greatly missed by all she touched.
