It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Ann [Burkett] Clements, on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the age of 76. She was our loving and devoted mother, wife, Nana and friend to all whose lives she touched. Barbara was born on April 27, 1943 in Shenandoah, VA. She grew up as a foster child and lived with five different foster families before moving to Washington, DC at the age of 18. Barbara immediately began working for C&P Telephone Company (where she retired with 35 years of service) and shortly after, she met Buddy Clements who sold her a vacuum cleaner at Sears Roebuck & Co. on Alabama Avenue. Three months later, they were married. On December 15, 2019, they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They joyfully raised their three daughters, Lisa, Dana and Julia in their family home in Lothian, MD. The additions of sons-in-law and grandchildren allowed them to continue to spread their legacy of love. Over the years, Barbara found joy in volunteering at church, attending Bible study, working part-time as a home economics teacher, gardening, vacationing at the beach, singing in the choir, softball, bowling, taking photographs and creating memory albums, shopping at Boscov’s, eating at Cracker Barrel, watching movies and getting manicures & pedicures. She loved taking care of people, especially those in need and always dreamed of becoming a nurse. Mom was a farm girl at heart and loved her visits to the valley, but most of all, she loved and cherished spending time with her family whenever and wherever she got the chance. Her servant’s heart touched a countless number of people and is a true reflection of Jesus’ love. We will strive to live by her example and pass on her values through our children and anyone we meet. She was the beloved wife of Howard Michael “Buddy” Clements and loving mother of her three daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa and Roland Colmus of Huntingtown, MD, Dana and Ben Straub of Leesburg, VA and Julia and Jeff McFadden of Blue Bell, PA. She was the cherished grandmother of her six grandchildren: Chris and Summer Colmus, Jack and Maddie McFadden and Max and Isaac Straub. Although our hearts are broken, we also rejoice knowing that she finally got to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Family invites friends to Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Saturday, February 29 from 4 to 6 pm. On Sunday, March 1, family will receive friends at Riverdale Baptist Church, 1177 Largo Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774, from 2 pm until beginning of Funeral Services at 3 pm. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
