Barbara Murphy Gheen

Barbara Murphy Gheen, 72 of St. Leonard, MD, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020, at home with her family by side. She was born on April 20, 1948, in Washington, DC, to James and Velma Murphy. She grew up in Wheaton, MD, graduated from Northwood High School in 1966 and then Montgomery Junior College. She married Ray on November 29, 1969. They lived in Hyattsville, MD before they moved to Clinton, MD, where they raised their two boys. In 1978, they moved to Calvert County, where they welcomed a baby girl. Barbara’s family was her pride and joy. She was a stay at home mom before she dabbled in real estate, eventually working for MD Regional Eye Associates for 21 years. Besides her family, you would find her gardening, baking, shopping, and lunching with her girlfriends. She loved to travel with her husband, particularly the Caribbean. She enjoyed boating and spending time with her family and friends sat their vacations homes in Lake Gaston, NC, Ocean City, MD, and Port Charlette, FL. She was preceded by her father, James Anthony Murphy, and survived by her mother Velma Elaine 99. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Francis Gheen of 51 years, her sons John (Stavroula), Dennis (Sharon), Jackie (Gilbert) and her grandchildren Athanasia, Brandon, Alexandra, Angelina, Danielle Rae, and Lincoln. Also survived by James ‘Jimmy’ Murphy III (Janis), Margaret ‘Peggy’ Wieroniey (John), Robert ‘Bobby’ Murphy (Lynn), and 10 nieces and nephews.
