Barbara Eloise Moore McMillion passed on November 28, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on December 9, 1932, to George and Mary Ada Chaney Moore. She grew up on the family farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
She graduated from Frederick Sasscer High School in 1950. She worked for Pepco in her early years, and then worked for the U.S. Bureau of the Census, from which she retired.
In her retirement, she became a member of several civic-minded and fraternal organizations after marrying her late husband, Cal. She came to truly relish this new part of her life, with the activities and charitable efforts they provided. She was a member of the Lions Club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Elks, among others.
Barbara was also quite involved in her church, Faith United Methodist Church in Accokeek, MD, for over 40 years. She was a member of United Methodist Women, holding the office of treasurer for several years. In 2004, she started a thrift shop at the church, which still operates to this day. It was definitely something of which Barbara was very proud. She continued to volunteer at the shop through the fall of 2024.
Barbara had the gift of gab, and no one was ever a stranger to her. She would talk to anyone, about anything. To all who knew her, Barbara was a cheerful, down-to-earth, one-of-a-kind woman. Everyone loved her, and she will be greatly missed.
Barbara was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Moore and Gilbert Moore. She is survived by four children: Hugh (Ellyn) Armstrong III, Debra King, Ronald (Catena) Armstrong, and Susan (Sam) Denny; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other special relatives and friends.
If you wish to make a donation in Barbara’s memory, please consider donating to Faith United Methodist Church at 15769 Livingston Road, Accokeek, MD 20607 or to Leader Dogs for the Blind at District 22-C Coordinator, 6404 Bushey Drive, Camp Springs, MD 20748.
