Barbara Ann Sands entered into the arms of Jesus on February 17, 2021. Her life may have ended, but her love lives on. Born on May 23, 1936 to Violet Evelyn and Carl Edward Ellis. Barb was the 4th child born on Henry Street in Steubenville, OH. During her younger years, she looked forward to playing games in the street with the other neighborhood children. Barb’s first interest in life was piano. She took lessons to play when she was in the 4th grade. Thus, began a life long joy of playing for various churches. Barb attended elementary school at McKinley and walked 2 miles to Harding Junior High School. During her early adulthood, Barbara pitched on a girls fast pitch softball team called the Ohio Buckeyes. Some of her favorite moments in time were pitching shut-outs and no-hitters. She attended senior high school at Big Red High School, which is where she met the lifelong love of her life, John Sands. They eloped and married on September 16, 1953. Barb found another love when she became a mother. As a mother, she had endless love for her children. She loved nurturing them and watching them grow. She considered being a homemaker one of her proudest accomplishments. She took pride in the fact that she created a loving, inviting, good home for their children to grow in. Barb loved church, singing in the choir and enjoyed making Easter Candy for the church to sell. Barb loved the color blue, baby-sitting, camping, traveling and going on cruises. Barb was a bright light in her community and family. She had the ability to draw others to her. Wherever she went, she made friends. Her inspiration, dedication and commitment to her family was immeasurable. What a gift God gave her.
