Beatrice W. Cooper

Beatrice Cooper (Bea) celebrated a reunion with family and friends on July 23, 2012, when she went to her new home in Heaven. Just turning 97 on July 16th, Bea had lived in Washington, D.C. where she had been lovingly cared for in the last few years by a host of wonderful friends, family, and caregivers. Here're some interesting things about her you might not have known. Bea was the youngest of six daughters born to Mr. And Mrs. Edward J. Wyche of Luthersville, GA. She was married for over 50 years to Bill Cooper, also from Georgia and a World War II Navy veteran. As a child, Bea enjoyed a rich peaceful Christian life growing up in rural Georgia, where she played with her sisters and cousins in the fields, farms, and streams, Bea moved to Washington in 1950 when she married Bill Cooper. She taught elementary school for over 25 Years in the Prince Georges County school system. She was active in her church, Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, where she taught Sinday School and kept the nursery. While having no children of her own, she established a long and fruitful legacy of love in the lives of untold children whose lives she impacted greatly. A creative and talent person, Bea excelled in many areas. She was an artist, a great cook and hostess, gardener, and loved to refinish furniture in their home located near the U.S. Capitol. She and Bill enjoyed the house and loved having people drop in. They were happy that so many young people felt at home there. Living a full life, Bea loved museums, concerts, art exhibits, and antique furniture. Bea's life changed dramatically when in 1994 Bill fell, and had to be taken to the hospital. He was never able to return home and died in the VA Nursing Home in 1999. A few years ago Bea had to move out of her home on Capitol Hill to receive assisted living care. While it would never compare to home, Bea was comfortable and well cared for. She made many friends and was a blessing to everyone she met. When she was a child growing up in Georgia she built a house made of straw with her sisters; when she was grown she built a home with Bill that was filled with beauty and charm; but now she has entered her Heavenly home, built by God, where all sorrow, tears, and sufferings are no more. Welcome home Bea, you good and faithful servant. Celebrate deeply with you family, friends, and the Lord in your new home in glory. You have touched our lives. We will all miss you so much.
