Bedford Forrest Witherspoon

April 7, 1924 — September 7, 2010

Bedford Forrest Witherspoon, Jr.\n “Buddy”\n April 7, 1924 ~ September 7, 2010\n \nOn Tuesday evening, September 7, 2010, Buddy Witherspoon had the joy of meeting his Lord and Savior face to face.\n \nBuddy lived a life that honored Jesus Christ. More than anything else he would want us to ~ know Jesus, live, walk, trust and rest in Him. His family cherishes the memories of his love for us all, which was rooted in Jesus’ faithful love for him. His favorite bible verse was:\n \nTherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.\n2 Corinthians 5:17\n \nHe knew this scripture to be true because he experienced it when he received Jesus Christ, and God made him a new man.\n \n***********\n Buddy was the first of five children born to the late, Bedford Forrest Witherspoon and Sarah Irene Crutchfield Witherspoon, in Madison County, Tennessee. He was named after his father, who was named for General Nathan Bedford Forrest whom his grandfather fought under and rode with during his service in the Confederate Calvary. He was predeceased by brothers, Billie Dee Witherspoon, Johnnie Jackson Witherspoon, Hewitt Witherspoon, step-brother Harry Johnson and sister Betty Pemberton. Surviving him is step-sister, Alice Addonizio of Las Vegas, Nevada.\n \n After graduating from high school, Buddy joined the United States Navy, serving in Washington, DC, and was aboard the USS Missouri when the armistice was signed, ending the Second World War. While stationed in Washington, DC, he met Myrtle Adell Morris, and they were married on August 19, 1944. They had three wonderful children; Carolyn Adell, Bedford Forrest “Mike” Witherspoon, III, and Bonnie Irene.\n \n For many years, Buddy managed two “Buddy’s Amoco” stations in Washington, DC, and retired after managing the Sear’s Garage on Alabama Avenue.\n \n Buddy was one of a group of men who met and prayed about organizing and starting a good gospel preaching church in the Clinton area. The answer to their prayers was the birth of the Camp Springs Community Church in 1959. Buddy has been an elder there from it’s beginning until the time of his promotion to heaven.\n \n He temporarily leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Myrtle Witherspoon, and his three children and their spouses; Carolyn & Hugo Black, Mike & Doris Witherspoon and Bonnie & Mike Drayer.\nBuddy was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and the loving great-grandfather of 21 beautiful great-grandchildren.\n \n Some of the happiest family memories were the big picnics at “The Property”, but they will be nothing compared to the glorious heavenly reunion one day —won’t you join us there!\n \nIn lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to:\nCapital Hospice The Gideons International\nAttn: Philanthropy Office Post Office Box 140800 \n2900 Telestar Court Nashville, TN 37214-0800 \nFalls Church, Virginia 22042\n To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Bedford Forrest Witherspoon please visit our Sympathy Store.
