Bernice Mary Newman of Fort Washington, MD was born on September 5, 1930. Bernice was the 2nd born child to John Elize and Myrtle Newman. She was the 2nd of 4 children. Bernice's older sister, Thelma, baby brother, Bernard and baby sister, Romaine were extremely close siblings. They grew up in Highland Park, MD. Bernice was raised in the Catholic Faith and attended Prince George's County Public Schools. On December 26, 2020, Bernice was called home to be with family and friends who have passed before her and to the arms of our Heavenly Father. In 1953 Bernice married John Mondell Newman and out of that marriage, 2 children joined the union: Monica and Zachary. Mondell and Bernice began raising their family in Seat Pleasant, MD. Their home was the gathering place for cookouts and card parties in which she enjoyed to do. Bernice was a fun loving lady who adored being with her siblings at family gatherings. Bernice loved to cook, shop and talk a lot of trash. Bernice would always cook for her nieces and nephews weddings and all other functions that she attended in the family. Bernice worked at Fort Belvoir, Bolling Air Force Base and finally retired from Andrews Air Force Base in 1980. She had been retired for over 40 years and she enjoyed her retirement. Bernice cherished her two grandchildren: Devon Strudivant [Melanie] and Chavon Strudivant [Troy] and her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mondell; her parents, John and Myrtle Newman; two children: Monica Sturdivant and Zachary Newman; her siblings: Thelma Parker [Emmanuel], Romaine Gray [George] and Bernard Newman [Sis]; sister-in-laws: Annie Mae, Sylvia Butler, Glendora [Skippy] Newman; brother-in-laws: Verlo Proctor, James Proctor and Nathan Newman. Also a longtime devoted friend, Andy Patterson.
