It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Ann (Cady) Swann, who peacefully left us in her sleep on February 16, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on June 2, 1940, Betty was a devoted wife, mother and "Nannie" whose love for her family knew no bounds.
Betty is survived by her children, Betty Greenwell (Chuck), John Swann (Carla), Jim Swann (Cindy- deceased), Joe Swann (Debi), Jack Swann (Kelly), and Barbara Mendez (Mario), as well as her brother, Edward Dorn. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Edna Mae (Dodd) Swann and John Bernard Cady, her sisters Dolores Johnson, Margaret Fisher and Carla Hardesty, and her beloved husband of over 66 years, Richard "Sonny" Swann. Betty and Sonny were the very definition of soulmates- their love and commitment to each other was unwavering and steadfast. They could even be seen in their later years holding hands.
Betty retired from Prince George's County Public Schools in 2002 after a fulfilling career. A woman who cherished family above all, she also found joy in listening to music, reading, sitting outside on her porch, and a McDonald's milkshake.
