Beverly Ann Cox

December 4, 1941 — May 20, 2015

Beverly Ann Cox, of Fort Washington, Maryland was born December 4, 1941. “B.B.” as her loving friends and family called her, passed away May 20, 2015. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of East Side Church of Christ in Van Alstyne, TX. Beverly is preceded in death by her husband, Neal Cox; sons, Christopher Benson and Vance E. Boyd; parents, Spencer and Pearlie Thompson; brother Spencer Thurman Thompson and sister, Diane Mayfield. Beverly graduated from Fred Douglas High School in Sherman, TX. Shortly after that, she married Arthur Boyd. From this union Vance Boyd was born. Throughout the years she attended many class reunions and remained close to her classmates. The class of 1959 will certainly miss her. She relocated to the District of Columbia in the early 1970’s where she briefly worked in the health care industry. Next, she was employed as a Payroll Specialist for the General Accountability Office (GAO). After 20 years of federal service, Beverly retired as a Personnel Systems Specialist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Beverly enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a loving and generous person who loved helping people, and you could always depend on her in time of need. She enjoyed dancing, reading and spending time with family and friends. Her closest friends were Patsy Maxwell, Linda Edwards, Bonita Thomas, Al Harkless and life partner John “Duke” Reid Jr. Her latest hobby was learning how to play the guitar. Last but not least, she loved listening to the sounds of go-go and doo-wop music. She is survived by her devoted and loving sister, Ermon L. Softly (DeSoto, TX), granddaughters, Ebony and Ashley Boyd (Durham, NC); step-son, Tolani Olesaware (Washington, DC), aunt, Odell Searls (Washington, DC); nephews and nieces; Jacqueline P. Hitchens (Ruddie) of DeSoto, TX; Joseph Mayfield of Bristow; VA and Rodney A. Mayfield (Lanora) of Mansfield, TX; Kendra D. Softly (DeSoto, TX); great-nieces and nephews, Megan (Craig) Robicheaux, Holli M. Hitchens, Christopher Mayfield, Seth A. Mayfield, Caleb Leeper, and great-nephews Mason K. Softly and Nicholas A. Robicheaux; cousins; Bob McKinney (Altha Faye) of Van Alstyne TX, Patricia (Robinson) Orr and Paul (Mae D) Hickson of Van Alsytne; Harold Thompson (Felicia) of Dallas.
