Bobby Gene O'Kelley\n \n \n \n \n \n \nOn Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Beloved father of Jeffrey S. O'Kelley and Christopher T. O'Kelley (Jennifer); grandfather of Colin C. O'Kelley brother of Alice Faye Bryan; friend of devoted former wife, Carol O'Kelley. Retired U.S. Park Police Officer and Member of Charles County Company 51 Rescue Squad.\nThis is the memorial service announcement for my former husband and father of our two adults sons. Bobby Gene O'Kelley passed away yesterday in the early morning. I spent the night with him in the hospital and was honored that he shared his last hours on this earth with me before he began his next journey. Bob was a wonderful husband , aloving father to his sons Jeff and Chris and he adored his only grandchild. Colin.\nBob nearly lost his life while on duty as a U.S. Park Police Officer 42 years ago. He became paralyzed from the neck down on that day and he thought his life was over. He was only given 2 days to live. I remember he told me that he would never be able to play baseball with his sons or do the other physical things that fathers do and thought his life as a father was finished. Well he proved the doctors wrong and went on to become an active member of his community, participating in Police Alumni activities; also an active Administrative Member of Charles County Maryland Volunteer Rescue No. 51 for many years. He proved that you do not have to walk to actively participate in the upbringing of your children. He was able to provide 42 more years of love to his sons and they to him. My sons and their father, always said "I Love You" each time they spoke on the phone and as adults they always kissed their father goodbye each and every visit. His face was where he still had normal feeling and that kiss and hug was always important to give and receive. His continued love he gave to his sons helped mold them into the wonderful men they have become and they honor their father with the way they live their life today.
