Brenda, the third child of John P. Proctor, Sr. (Perry) (deceased 1994) and Elizabeth M. Newman Proctor (Mamie), was born on November 13, 1947 in Washington, D.C. She was raised in the country in Largo on a farm. Brenda graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland in 1965. She continued her education graduating from Bowie State College in 1969 where she also received her Masters Degree a few years later. She taught first and third grades in elementary schools; first in North Forestville and then in Edgar A. Poe from 1969 to 1999. She retired after 30 years of service. Brenda married Bill Ferguson who departed this life April 2017 and they had two sons, Darian and Adrian. She was a loving sister to John (Linda) (Violet), Bernard (JoAnn), and Hilda (Alvin). She was a loving aunt to Elizabeth, Paul, Michael, Marquita, Meloney, Gerald, and Glenn (deceased 1994). Brenda had many aunts and uncles from both sides of Mamie and Perry's families and countless cousins. Brenda was known for her love of family and friends, and for her compassion for her elementary students. She was a loving wife, mother and teacher. Family was always first for Brenda. For a number of years, Brenda taught Sunday school after church on Sundays. She loved to write poems and say things to make you laugh. She would often take trips to the Caribbean with her husband and her school teacher friends. Being a very kind person, Brenda was notorious for giving those she loved lots of little gifts and cards. She loved taking photographs of family. Like her father, Brenda was very fast, timely, and an early riser. She loved making potato salad for him. Brenda was someone you could depend on. She always did what she said she would do. She was happy for whatever people got in life and was a very complimentary person. Before becoming very ill, Brenda called and visited family members and close friends on a regular basis. Brenda's mom would visit her usually every day at the nursing home until she could no longer drive, a few years ago, because she said Brenda needed her. Brenda was a doting daughter to her mother and a doting mother to her two sons. During her illness, Brenda was cared for by her devoted and loving son, Darian.
