Brenda Kay (Smith) Keller

October 11, 1956 — March 23, 2009

Brenda Kay (Smith) Keller was a proud mother and wife who will be deeply missed by beloved husband David J. Keller; children Kristine Day and Joey Ray; and brothers Jeff and Danny Smith. Brenda was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky in October of 1956 and spent most of her childhood in Florida. Brenda attended the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine. As an active student, head cheerleader, and pompom girl, she had plenty of friends and fell in love with St. Augustine – she was often spotted at the Cheese Wheel eating a turkey ryder sandwich. Later, she attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. She was a dynamic student, received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and was an active sorority sister of Phi Kappa Zeta. At Gallaudet, she met David, who chased her for two full years before she would pay him any attention. He worked hard, and it paid off – they were married May 22, 1982. A strong marriage brought two successful, loving children into the world. Brenda loved spending time with her family and was always seen on Gallaudet University’s campus smiling and joking with students. She even adopted a few foster students as her own children throughout the 30 years she worked as the Supervisor of Student Services. Brenda loved butterflies, dolphins, owls, lazy summer days by the pool, singing and dancing. She was outgoing and would do anything she could for those who asked for her help. She was loved and well respected by everyone that crossed her path. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Brenda Kay (Smith) Keller please visit our Sympathy Store.
