Carolyn Giordano Vazquez of Huntingtown, MD passed peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 82. Born December 26, 1942, in Washington, D.C. She was the middle child of Delia Heflin Giordano and William Joseph Giordano.
She grew up in Northeast Washington D.C, in the community of Brookland, where she attended 12 years at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. After graduation she attended Washington School for Secretaries. Her career began at the National Science Foundation. After her family was raised, she went to work partially from home and then continued at OmniPrint, Inc., a printing/publishing firm in Lanham, MD. She retired after 30 years as a sales executive.
She met Donald Andrew Vazquez at a firehouse dance through mutual friends and they married on August 17, 1963. They made their home in Hyattsville, MD where Donald Jr. and Angie were born. They moved from there to College Park, MD where Michael was born. After the children were grown, they moved to Huntingtown, MD.
Carolyn never met a stranger. Her fun-loving personality was contagious. She was a dear friend to many over the course of her life. She had a love for music and dancing. She taught herself to play the piano. She had a passion for adventure and traveled with her husband Donnie to many states as well as trips to Europe, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
She is survived by her husband Donald A Vazquez Sr., of Huntingtown, MD, her son Donald A Vazquez Jr (spouse: Nancy) of Sunderland, MD. Daughter Angela Keehn (spouse: Brian) of Huntingtown, MD; her son Michael C. Vazquez (spouse Melinda) of Ft Walton Beach, FL; her sister Reenie Giordano Miller of North Ft. Myers, FL, sister-in-law Bettie Ickes of Crofton, MD. "Nanny" to Rebecca Hughes (spouse: Alex); Christina Hatfield (Spouse: Timmy); Dominic Vazquez & Emily Vazquez. Loving "Great Nanny" to Olivia Hatfield & Adley Hughes. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, special cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by: Mother & Father Dee & Bill Giordano; Sister Patricia A Richbourg (Bob) and Brother-in-laws John Miller, Wayne Mason, Buddy Vazquez, sister-in-law Joan and Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Lucy and Andrew Vazquez.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of contributions in Carolyn's name to the Parkinson's Foundation and St. Anthony of Padua Alumni Assn of Washington, D.C.
A Requiem Mass will be held at Jesus Divine Word Parish, 885 Cox Road, Huntingtown, MD on February 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Family & friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service in the adjoining Parish Hall, continuing the celebration of our dearly departed wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend Carolyn.
