Charles E. (Charlie) Langyher lll passed away on Monday October 05, 2020 at the age of 86 after a battle with bladder cancer. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. Charlie was born in Washington, DC on July 31, 1934. Charlie was the son of the late Virginia Gale and Charles E. Langyher ll. He led a rich and diverse life. After graduating from Gonzaga High School in 1952, he attended Georgetown University on the GI Bill Program after serving In the U.S. Coast Guard. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, and upon his departure from the Coast Guard, began a company in the area of transportation taxes and tariffs. He also had a long and distinguished civil service career working at the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). He became the Chief of Rate Review and Research Branch at the ICC until his retirement. In forming true partnerships, Charlie cared deeply about his family and friends, and was dedicated to supporting those close to him. He is survived by Lorraine, his wife of 65 years, his son Larry, daughter-in-law Patricia Langyher, daughter Laurie & son-in Law Ed Yates, daughter Colleen & son-in-law Dave Bradley, and predeceased by his son Kenny Langyher. He was a loving grandfather to Brian Wiedmeier, Keith Delahanty, Stephen Langyher, Katie Langyher, and Liz Langyher. He is also survived by two step-granddaughters Melissa Pascal and Chrissy Howland, and eight great grandchildren. He was an avid reader, loved to play poker, travel, and spend time relaxing at Smith Mountain Lake, Va. Charlie, a friend of Bill W. for 46 years, dedicated himself to bringing inspiration and hope to others on the road to recovery. With several quips often stated such as "check your record" and "be good to yourself." Family will receive friends at the Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd, Clinton, MD 20735 on October 26, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p. m. Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm. Burial will follow immediately after at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
