Charles Nelson Richards

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at his residence in Shady Side, Maryland, Charles “Charlie” Nelson Richards, beloved father of Debra Richards Catterton (son-in-law Scott Catterton), Paul Richards (daughter-in-law April Richards) and former husband and best friend of Connie Townshend Halkovich, passed away. He is preceded in death by his cherished granddaughter Erin Morgan Catterton. Also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth (husband Jake), Scottie (wife Macie), Chris (wife Jaclynn), Reese, great-grandchildren Rex, Ryan, Shane, Baileigh, Ryleigh, Silas, Everleigh and Truleigh.

Charlie was born September 9, 1938, at his childhood home in Croom, Maryland. After service in the U.S. Air Force, he proudly served the District of Columbia at the largest advanced water treatment plant in the world for over 40 years. He loved watching  Washington Redskins games, NASCAR, Baltimore Orioles baseball, and spending time with his family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home Calvert 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736. A private burial will be held at Brookfield United Methodist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland on Tuesday, February 7th. A celebration of life lunch, open to all friends and family, will begin at 1:30 on February 7th at Mama Stella’s Ristorante Italiano (7918 Old Branch Ave, Clinton MD 20735).
