Chester Leroy Querry, age 78, of Forestville, MD passed away January 31, 2016 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Chester, known as “Chet”, was born March 7, 1937 to Milton Herbert and Catharine Ruth (Garman) Querry in Mapleton Depot, PA. After graduating from Captain Jack High School in Mount Union, PA in 1955, he joined the United States Marine Corps and played in the Drum and Bugle Corps as a bugler until 1959. That same year he went to work for the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO). He married Byrle Frances (Mudd) Querry in 1960 and they lived in Mount Rainier, MD until moving in 1966 to Forestville, MD in Prince George’s County. He was a member of Beech Run Church of the Brethren in Mapleton Depot, PA and attended Holy Spirit Church in Forestville, MD. In April of 1995 he retired from PEPCO. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather known as “Pap” and great grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, going to the Washington Redskins games, attending PEPCO retires lunch bunch once a month, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold H. Querry and his wife Mary E. Strawser, sister Lorma L. (Querry) McKinney, half-sister Gloria (Querry) Dilts, and half-brother Kenny Querry. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Byrle Frances (Mudd) Querry, daughter Catherine Ruth (Querry) Hager and her husband Carl E. Hager III of Dunkirk, MD, grandchildren Crystal L. (Hager) Wilkinson and her husband Matthew R. Wilkinson of Lusby, MD and Carl E. Hager IV and his wife Amanda L. (Lummus) Hager of California, MD and three great grandchildren Carl E. Hager V, Christian M. Wilkinson and Seth T. Hager. He is also survived by his sister Pauline A. (Querry) Leffel of Reading, PA, brother-in-law Kurt L. McKinney Sr. of Lewistown, PA, half-sisters Shirley M. (Querry) Brumbaugh and her husband Daniel D. Brumbaugh of Altoona, PA, Edna M. Querry of Huntingdon, PA and step-sister Vivian R. Geyer of Huntingdon, PA. He is also survived by his best four legged friend Mischief the cat. Funeral services/Interment will be held Saturday, February 6 at 10:00 AM in the Mausoleum Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD and a reception for family and friends will follow at the Knights of Columbus, 3611 Stewart Road, Forestville, MD to celebrate Chester’s life.
