Christian Glombik

December 10, 1929 — January 21, 2016

Christian Glombik, CMSgt, USAF (Ret) passed away on 21 January, 2016 in Fort Washington, MD. Born 10 December, 1929 in Gleiwitz, Germany, to Alois and Maria Glombik, his youth was forever altered by WW II. At the age of 12 his father was interned at the Dachau concentration camp and subsequently gassed to death. Three years later as the Russians invaded Germany, his mother was killed and he personally buried his mother and became a war orphan, surviving on sheer determination under unspeakable conditions. Following the war, he immigrated to the United States via Canada under the sponsorship from then 1st Lieutenant Roy Nisbet, USA, the commanding officer of the base at Scheyern, Germany where he was employed as the bowling center manager. He then enlisted in the USAF and earned his United States citizenship. He had an outstanding 28 year career, starting at the Pentagon and ending there as well, with numerous NATO tours at Ramstein, Germany in the communications career field as he was fluent in both German and French. He was also one of the top one percent of the enlisted force earning the rank of "Chief". He earned numerous campaign and humanitarian medals as well as the Meritorious Service medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal and the National Service Medal with bronze star. Following retirement he worked for Computer Services Corporation and then as a civilian employee of the United States Army, again at the Pentagon, retiring from civil service in his mid 60's. A true renaissance man, he had an amazing understanding of how things worked, and if he didn't know he made it a point to find out. He was also a devoted family man who took care of everything. He is survived by his wife Maria who was the love of his life and they celebrated 59 years together in December of last year, and son Christian Glombik, LtCol, USAF (Ret), wife Debra, grandchildren Jennifer Koval and husband Jedadiah, Shane Glombik, and great grandson Blake Koval.
