Christine Kay Hoehl

September 1, 1974 — January 13, 2022

Christine Kay Hoehl, of Upper Marlboro, MD died on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the age of 47. Born in Silver Springs, MD, the youngest of five children born to George Hoehl and Ruth Hoehl. Christine grew up in Clinton, MD with Downs Syndrome, attending public schools and received a certificate from Friendly High School. Over the next 45 years, the events in Christine’s life took her to many places, particularly those that had to do with Special Olympics competition. During her early years she represented the Girl Scouts during the United Way Campaign. Christine then became the first Down Syndrome to earn the Gold Award. She also took advantage of the Girl Scout program to assist Senator Robert Dole at his congressional office. Christine traveled for Special Olympics to compete in Bocce, Golf, and Bowling. Her most amazing trips were two trips in 2006 (earned a Silver Metal) and 2007 (earned a Bronze Metal) to Shanghai, China for Bocce. In 2005 she traveled to Ontario, Canada for the Pope’s World Youth Event. She was a dedicated worker and received appreciation awards from both her employers Marshalls and Giant. Christine was blessed with a large and loving family. Her firm belief in God supported her and gave her peace. She was an active member of the Special Religious Education (SPRED) at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Queens of Knights with the Knights of Columbus where she helped set up the hall for social events. For most of her life, Christine enjoyed hand dancing with the Star Lighters. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she is dancing with her friend Barnie Kilbride. Christine also loved to color intricate geometric patterns. Daughter of George J Hoehl and predeceased by Her Mother Ruth Lohr Hoehl, Sister of Nancy Palmedo of Chesapeake, VA, Patricia "Patty" Hawes Jones of Melbourne, FL, John Hawes of Manassas, VA, predeceased by the late Joanne Cart, and Robert "Bobby" Hawes. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and family members. Family will receive guests at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road, Clinton, MD 20735 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. A funeral mass will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Church on Thursday, January 27, time pending. Burial will take place at MD National Cemetery, Cheltenham, 3001 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623 at a later date..
