Christopher Cooper

July 21, 1952 — March 15, 2016

It is with deep sadness that we share that Chris has been called home to our Lord on March 15th of this year. Chris was born on July 21th, 1952 in San Francisco, California, to Barbara and Richard Cooper. Chris was baptized in faith later that year at All Saints Episcopal Church. In 1961, Chris moved with his family to Broadmoor Village where he lived until he left to serve in the Armed Forces. Chris was a free spirit and truly loved spending time at the beach or up in sunny Marin with his friends, Larry and Gene. He attended Westmoor High School but left before graduating to enlist in the Air Force in 1970. After having successfully completed Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX Chris went on to achieve his A&P certification. He was a very successful and dedicated Service member as well as a subject matter expert on many of the platforms that the Air Force flies. Chris served in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Anchorage, Alaska, where he attained his GED High School Certification. Later on in his career, he served in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and at Andrews AFB in Maryland. It was while he was in Maryland that he achieved the prominent position serving as the crew chief for Vice President George Bush’s personal jet as a member of the elite 89th Air Wing. It was this dedication and devotion that allowed Chris to attain the rank of E7 or Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Air Force with 20 plus years of service, Chris walked 100 yards across the tarmac at Andrews AFB from one hangar to another. He spent the next 20 plus years working for a number of private contractors that maintained a fleet of Gulf Stream jets for the Air Force. Throughout his careers, Chris was known as a great friend, co-worker, leader, a diligent and detail oriented mechanic who never accepted anything but the best from himself and his people. Chris was a loving father, a devoted husband, and a great brother who raised four boys to be great men. He will be missed by his family and all his friends. Chris is survived by his sons, Ricky Cooper of Arkansas, Bryan Cooper of California, and Robert Cooper (Crystal) of Maryland, his brother Craig Cooper (Elizabeth) of Fremont, California his sister Cathy Steele (Gregg) of Mill Valley, California. He was a grandfather to Austin, Ryan and Elaina. Preceding him in death were his son Daniel, his brother Clifford, his mother Barbara, and his father Richard. We started this obituary by sharing our sadness that Chris has passed from us. We are sad that he is no longer with us but we also want those who knew Chris to celebrate in the joy of our risen Lord with confidence and a true faith knowing that Chris is now enjoying a wonderful homecoming with his Son, Brother, Mom, and Dad. From 1st Peter 1:8-9 “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” Funeral arrangements and a memorial service are pending. Announcements will be made via social media and through phone calls once they are known. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Christopher Cooper please visit our Sympathy Store.
