Mr. Clement Xavier Galligan

September 26, 1927 — January 25, 2016

Clement X. Galligan, a native of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and a resident of Hillcrest Heights, Maryland for 61 years, died on January 25, 2016 at the age of 88. Clement was the youngest of 4 children of John J. and Louise (Dennin) Galligan who predeceased him, as did his brothers Gerard (Order of Carmelites), Eymard (Society of St. Edmund) and sister, Sister Marie Carmel (School Sisters of Notre Dame). Mr. Galligan attended the Catholic University of America, Class of 1950, following service in the United States Navy. Mr. Galligan was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency from 1950 till 1986 and retired as the Executive Officer of Training for the Agency. He was a member of the Senior Intelligence Service and received the Career Intelligence Medal following 36 years of distinguished service. He was also a graduate of the College of Naval Warfare, Naval War College, Newport, R.I., Class of 1973. Following his CIA retirement, Mr. Galligan became the Director of the Assumption Outreach Program in Southeast Washington, serving the less fortunate in that part of the City for 17 years. Mr. Galligan was an active parishioner of Holy Family Parish in Hillcrest Heights, where he held positions in the Holy Name Society, the Loyola Retreat League and served for 4 years as President of the Parish Council. In the late 1950's, he was the substitute narrator for the T.V. Mass for Shut-Ins. In the 1960's, he served as President of the Prince Georges Council of Catholic Men. Mr. Galligan was an avid sports fan with wide knowledge of baseball and thoroughbred racing. His hobbies included coin and stamp collecting. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Mr. Galligan was predeceased by his wife, the former Susanne Abell, whom he married in 1951. He is survived by 4 children, Michael Galligan (Alice), Susanne Galligan, Christine Galligan and John Galligan (Richard Koonce); 4 grandchildren, Ryan Galligan, Caitlin Reid (Erik), Brendan Galligan (Beth Ann) and Diana Galligan; and 5 great grandchildren, Luke, Zachary, Raea, Quinn and Colleen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends at the Church one hour prior to the Services. Burial will take place at St. Peter's Cemetary, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. at a later date.
