On November 19, 2016, Clinton G. Turner, III, at the age of 74 passed away after a long battle with dementia. He lived a full and giving life. His contributions to his family, community, and career are immeasurable. Clinton was born in Norfolk, Virginia, son of the late Mary Louise and Clinton G. Turner, Jr. While attending high school, he met Roslyn Evans. After a three year courtship, he then married his high school sweetheart Roslyn Evans. The union between Clinton and Roslyn bore two sons, Sean and Stephen. In 1959, while attending high school at Booker T. Washington, Clinton enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve. In 1961, upon the completion of high school, he transitioned to active duty in the United States Navy where he served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. In 1979 Clinton was promoted to Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic at the Naval Air Station in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. As a ranking member of Patrol Squadron VP 64, he became the unit’s Command Career Counselor providing support to 400 Naval Personnel and their families. After 23 years of service Clinton retired at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1982 after retiring from the United States Navy he served as a police officer at the United States Capitol Police. Clinton served and protected the United States Congressional community at the United States Capitol Building. He was very active in his career as a police officer with the United States Capitol Police. He served in the Presidential Inauguration for George W. Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney; trained in the Civil Disturbance Unit; selected as a Victim/Witness Assistance Program Coordinator; and volunteered for Concerns of Police Survivors as a mentor surviving families (C.O.P.S.). After 21 years of service, he retired from the United States Capitol Police. Clinton held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Bowie State University, and a Master’s of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Disabled American Veterans, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Counseling Association, The Renascence Institute, The Stephanie Roper Foundation, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Outside of his family and career, Clinton coached little league baseball teams at Joint Base Andrews/Washington, D.C. He was a gifted writer and won an award from Bowie State University for his essay entitled “Midnight on the West Front”. He valued giving back to the community and gave lectures to youth on Career Day at local elementary schools in Prince George’s County Maryland. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Roslyn; two sons, Sean (Leaigha), Stephen; two grandchildren; Christopher and Nahla. Sister, Carolyn Graddy (David) of Norfolk, Virginia; Brother, Milton (Vivian) of Flushing, New York; Sister-in-law, Selena Hayes (Calvin) of Englewood, New Jersey and numerous nieces and nephews.
