Connie Baker

December 6, 1949 — February 15, 2015

Connie Baker, age 65,Passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Southern Maryland Hospital following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Alverel and Margie Dumas. Mrs. Baker retired from Knoxville County School System and served 2 terms as a representative on Carter County School board. She was a devout member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a member of Browns Chapel AME Zion Church where she served as Treasurer and a member of the Missionary society. She founded the Community Information Center in Elizabethton Tennessee which was instrumental in providing free tax services, business startup and after school programs for Douglas Community and Elizabethton City. Mrs. Baker, an active member of the Democratic Party served on numerous committees focused on healthy communities and rural families. Mrs. Baker was an avid supporter of alma maters Knoxville College, where she completed her Bachelors in Business Administration and University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she completed her Masters of Business Administration and all doctoral coursework for her Doctorate of Education. Mrs. Connie Baker was also known for her style, grace, southern hospitality and will be missed by many.
