Cora Denise Kimes

May 4, 1967 — October 26, 2023

Cora Denise Kimes departed this life for eternal rest, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born May 4, 1967 in Prince George’s County to Richard and Shirley Waters. She was the youngest of four children born to the couple. She attended Prince George’s Public Schools, where she graduated in 1985 from Frederick Douglass High School.

Cora accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was raised in the Catholic Faith during her early childhood, however, she joined Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in March 2018 where she was a faithful member until her passing.

Cora was employed by Charles County Public Schools as a guidance secretary at St. Charles High School in Waldorf, MD since the school opened in 2014.  Earlier in her career, she worked for the federal government, USAID (U.S. Agency for International Development), and subsequently she transitioned to Malcolm Elementary School in Waldorf, MD.

Cora met the love of her life, Myron Kimes, in the late 1980s. They courted a few years, then were joined in holy matrimony on November 5, 1993. To their union, two daughters were born:  Jordan and Morgan. The couple also raised her sister’s son, Darris J. Gordon, following her passing.

Cora was a vivacious spirit. She will be greatly missed for being loving, caring and kind, exceptionally organized (possibly undiagnosed OCD), friendly, helpful, goofy, loud and exuberant, family-oriented, dependable, compassionate, cheerful and patient.

Cora enjoyed a variety of activities while in school such as playing softball and running track. As an adult, she enjoyed various interests such as dancing, playing board games, shopping and traveling, as well as decorating the house for Christmas.  Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother; she was proud to support her children in all of their activities as they were growing up.  She also enjoyed acting as mother-mentor to many children that crossed her path.

Cora is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Grace Waters; grandfather, Perry L. Garrett; sister, Tina L. Gordon, father in-law, Marion Kimes; brother in-law, Martin B.  Kimes, and niece, Nova B. Washington-Kimes.

Cora leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of nearly 30 years, Myron Kimes; daughters, Jordan I. White (Kenny) and Morgan C. Kimes; nephew-son, Darris J. Gordon; granddaughter, Aurora L. White; parents, Richard C. and Shirley P. Waters; brother, Richard G. Waters; sister, Mary E. Waters; grandmother, Katie Garrett; mother in-law, Marva Kimes; brothers in-law, Anthony T. Kimes, Barry L. Kimes Sr. (Carolyn aka “Sweetie”), Barry Kimes Jr. (Sara); sister in-law, Marsha Yarbough (Raymond); nieces and nephews: Richard G. Waters Jr., Shacara Kimes, Jasmine Kimes, C’nedra Harris, Anthony Kimes Jr., Ebony Kimes, Essence Montgomery (Jordan), Quinton Kimes, Shamira Howard, Sharee Hayes, Raymond Yarbough Jr., Moniques Cooper, Charity Kimes and Charina Kimes; and a host of other relatives and friends.
