Cynthia Catherine Orr "Cinnie"

Celebration of Life Cynthia Catherine Orr May 20, 1948 – November 28, 2021 Mrs. Cynthia “Cinnie” Catherine Orr, daughter of the late James and Catherine Douglas, blessed this world with her birth on May 20, 1948 at Cafritz Hospital in Washington, DC. Cynthia attended Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, MD, where she was Head Majorette of the Frederick Douglass High School Marching Band and a Jr. member of the St. Mary’s Auxiliary #21. A bright and talented student, Cynthia received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia State University in 1970, where she was both a Majorette and a spirited member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Thereafter, Cynthia received her Master of Science in Education Administration from Eastern Michigan University. Following graduation, Cynthia began her career as an Analyst for the Ann Arbor Michigan Model Cities Program. Though she loved her work, Cynthia always dreamt of working in Human Resources and as fate would have it, she met a recruiter who informed her about a Compensation Analyst position in the Human Resources department at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. After the birth of her second child, she accepted the role of Principal at Open Door Christian Church’s Accelerated Christian Education School for grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, in Northville, Michigan. A few years later, the Orr family moved to Upper Marlboro, MD, where Cynthia returned to her roots in Human Resources Management and went on to a long and fulfilling career as the Director of Human Resources for Dimensions Health at Laurel Regional Hospital. Cynthia was extremely dedicated to her work and the hospital administration community she served for over 20 years. United in loving matrimony for 52 years, Cynthia wed Michael Anthony Orr at Mt. Calvary Catholic Church in Forrestville, MD on June 28, 1969. Their union has been blessed by two children: Jamal Anthony (Lisa) Orr and Chana Ylahne Orr; and five grandchildren: Malcolm Anthony Perry, Ahmad Jamal Orr, Caleb Michael Orr, Jeremiah Marcus Orr and Ella Mari Indigo Orr (deceased). After a long and trying illness, our beautiful Cinnie peacefully chose to make her transition to the next life on the morning of Sunday, November 28, 2021 at home with Michael, in Upper Marlboro, MD. We honor our beloved wife, mother, and sister in celebration of her generous spirit and devotion. Her benevolent life will forever be cherished by her thriving husband, children and grandchildren; sister, Salome Douglas (James) Davis; nephews, Terrell (Sherron Simpson) Davis and Daryl (Tiarra Jones) Davis [Godson]; brother-in-love, Rev. Kenneth L. (Dorothy) Orr; nieces, Kniche (Michael) Clark (and children), Knasaun Orr (and children) and Knasarae Orr (Odis) Parker and children; Goddaughter, Jackie Henderson Carson; aunts, Viola Henderson, Ann (William) Robinson and Juanita Reid; uncle, Alphonso (Mary) Holley Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
