Darryl L. Wade

December 10, 1970 — January 1, 2025

Darryl L. Wade was born on December 10, 1970, in Washington, DC to Yvonne Wade and Carl “Tim” Greenfield. He peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on January 1, 2025, at his home in Waldorf, Maryland.

Darryl received his education in Charles County Public Schools and graduated from La Plata High School in 1988. He briefly attended Southern Maryland Community College, but in the early 1990s, his passion for barbering inspired him to enroll at Bladensburg Barber School and obtain his barber license. His enthusiasm for the craft was evident early on, as he set up an impromptu barbershop in his basement, proudly cutting his friends’ hair. Over the next two decades, Darryl became a generational barber in the DMV area, earning the trust of countless fathers and sons who appreciated not only his skill and dedication to the profession but also his infectious sense of humor.

Darryl was known for his remarkable handyman skills and could fix just about anything. A spiritual man, he enjoyed engaging others in thoughtful conversations on virtually any topic. Darryl was also a passionate sports fan, with football (Go Commanders!), boxing, and basketball topping his list of favorites. He had an impressive ability to recall every player and their stats, relishing spirited debates where he almost always emerged victorious. His uncles affectionately nicknamed him “Jimmie” because of his uncanny accuracy in predicting winning teams.

Darryl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether at amusement parks, family functions, or in the kitchen. He was a “foodie” (as his aunt Pamela fondly called him) and could be counted on to name the best tasting food, where to get it, and how to prepare it. During family gatherings, Darryl was the first one in the kitchen where he liked to mix up what he called “Darryl Wade’s creation”. His ability to expertly pair spices with seafood and meats was unmatched. However, when it came time to do the dishes, Darryl would vanish like a magician, leaving everyone smiling at his clever escape. In addition to his culinary talents, Darryl was a meticulous dresser with an appreciation for cologne and watches. He took great pride in looking his best, no matter the circumstance.

Darryl was the comedian, sportscaster, and chef of the family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his love and memory will comfort us. Though he may be absent, he will never be forgotten.

Darryl leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted mother Yvonne Wade and father Carl T. Greenfield (Daisy); son, Devon Wade and daughter, Miranda Scroggins (Nikola and Mila); sister, Timiya Greenfield; grandmother, Gertrude Greenfield; aunts, Dianne Queen, Jacqueline Matthews (Howard), and a beloved aunt, Pamela Wade; uncles, David Wade, Steve Wade, Cornell Greenfield, Mark Greenfield, Larry Greenfield, and JR Greenfield; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends; and bonus family: mother Alicia Morris, brother Bryan Goldsworth, and Devons’ brother Mattias Payne.

He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Deniya Wade.
