COLONEL DAVID DEAN BANHOLZER Colonel David Dean Banholzer, 47, The 14th Presidential Pilot of the United States, former Commander of Air Force One, passed away from Gliobalstoma Multiforme in his Southern Maryland home surrounded by his family on the 4th of November, 2016. David was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was a Distinguished Graduate of Air Force ROTC at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served his country with distinction for over 24 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rating of Command Pilot with more than 6,500 flight hours. His assignments included Texas, California, Washington, Illinois, Rhode Island and Maryland. A supportive husband, compassionate father and loyal friend, Dave was a constant source of encouragement to his wife, Ali, in her entrepreneurial pursuits and his girls, Kate and Carrie in their many interests. He was known for his passion for aviation and travel. Dave was a committed member of his church, Saint Nicholas Lutheran Church in Huntingtown, Maryland. Colonel Banholzer also held professional memberships in Daedalions, American Legion, and Airlift/Tanker Association. David was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia. The memories of his life and many significant contributions will be forever cherished by his beloved wife Alison and their devoted daughters Katherine and Caroline, his father, Frank, brothers William (Claudette) and Ted (Elizabeth) of Wisconsin, mother-in-law, Beverly Dart, father-in-law, George H. Dart (Kathy), brother-in-law George (Lisa) and step-sister-in-law Jennifer Dew (Brian) and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, Colonel Banholzer will forever live in the hearts and thoughts of his brothers and sisters in arms who have had the honor of serving with him. The family has established The Banholzer Scholarship Fund to provide an annual scholarship to a high school graduate that is interested in pursuing a career in aviation.
