MGYSGT David John Werner Sr., USMC (Ret.), of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the age of 77. David was born to parents Albert and Margaret Werner on October 21, 1940 in Highland, IL. He grew up the youngest of 4 children until 1958 when, upon High School graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. David proudly and admirably served in the USMC for 25 years, during which time he held many positions to include aviation mechanic, drill instructor, recruiter, and squadron chief. He served a tour in Vietnam and various other deployments around the world. David met and married his wife, Carolyn B. Denby, of Phoebus, Va.in 1960 while they were both stationed at a naval base in Virginia. They were married 58 years and had 5 children. David is survived by his wife, Carolyn Werner, his children (spouses) Leslie Hart, Lisa Whitt (Ronnie), Susan Fahnestock (Wade), David J. Werner Jr. (Holly), and William Werner (Anita), 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Faye Kovach and brother Paul Werner. A memorial service will be held at on October 5, 2018 at 12 p.m., at Cheltenham United Methodist Church, 11111 Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD., 20623. Immediately after will be a military service at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
