Dixie Lee Thompson, a beloved homemaker and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 82, in her home in Dunkirk, MD. Born on August 25, 1942, in Upper Marlboro, MD, she was the daughter of William Assmussen and Bessie Ellis. Dixie dedicated her life to her family, raising her son, Lewis Thompson, with unwavering love and support.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Lewis (Cynthia), and her cherished grandchildren: Amanda, Kelly, Lewis Jr, Brittany, Samantha and Haley. Her daughter Wendy and her cherished grandchildren: Ryan, David, and William, along with 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dixie shared a close bond with her siblings, including Lewis Assmussen, Carolyn Marlow, and Barbra Tayman. Dixie was preceded in death by: William Thompson, William Assmussen, Bessie Assmessen.
Dixie had a zest for life that was reflected in her love for playing cards until the early morning light, baking delicious treats, sewing beautiful creations, and spending quality time with those she held dear. Her warm spirit and gentle nature touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of joy, laughter, and love.
Dixie Lee Thompson will forever remain in our hearts, remembered for her kindness, passion for life, and the love she poured into every relationship. Her legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched.
