Don L. Lane

Mr. Don Laverne Lane, 92 of Upper Marlboro, MD passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home on November 10, 2022. He was just one day shy of his 93rd birthday. Don fought dementia for two long years.

Don was born on November 11, 1929, Thomas Orva and Stella Mae (Cooper) in Shannon City, IA. He graduated from Winterset High school in 1948. Upon graduation he received a football and basketball scholarship to Central College in Pella, IA., where he attended 2 1/2 years before being drafted into the Air Force.

He served in the Air force for many years and worked as the superintendent of cryptology. Don served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After traveling and seeing the world, Don retired from the Pentagon and Air Force in 1979 totaling 28 years of service.

He enjoyed playing and teaching golf. Don at times was lucky enough to set a hole-in-one. Other enjoyments were entertaining, socializing and dancing.  He was a smooth dancer, and the ladies would line up for a twirl. You could find Don gardening and growing vegetables for all to enjoy in his spare time.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brother and 2 sisters. He was the youngest of 8 children.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Luanne Bonsall Lane of 32 years, daughter Hope Mortimore Morrefield (Brian), Grand-Daughter Emerson Grace Moorefield. As well as many nieces, nephews and friends whom he cherished.  

A visitation will be held on December 12, 2022, 10:00 AM -12:00 PM at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd, Clinton, MD 20735 where the funeral will also take place at 12:00 PM.

Interment will take place at Cheltenham Maryland Veterans Cemetery directly after service.
