Donald Lee Lyons

Mr. Donald Lee Lyons departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., at age 78. Donald was born on June 28, 1943 to the late Minnie Lee Nicely and Joseph Earl Lyons, Sr. in Durham, North Carolina. While growing up he was a factory worker and graduated from in Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh, New York. Donald attended North Carolina A&T then joined the Air Force on April 19, 1967, where he served his country for 4 years. Donald worked for C&P telephone company for many years before retiring. Donald Lyons and Virginia McNair Lyons had been together for 62 years, and married for 51 years before she passed away in 2019. Their union produced 5 children: Evangeline (Gregory) Graves, Donald (Lavinia Warrens) Lyons, Jr. (daughter in law: Merceda Lyons preceded him in death), Blair Joseph Lyons (preceded him in death), Veneree (Brian) Hall, Terrence (Sonya) Lyons, Sr; his sister Alice Michelle Mims also preceded him in death. Donald is survived by his remaining 4 children, 5 grandchildren: Gregory (Jerrod) Graves, Donaree (Anthony) Ealey, Terrence (Kenesha Tracy) Lyons, Jr., Alicia (DaJour Johnson) Lyons, Michael Joseph Hall, and 7 great-grandchildren: from Donaree: Gebari, Geoni, and Gizelle. From Alicia: DaJour Johnson, Jr., Asa Johnson, and August Johnson; from Terrence Jr: Adrian Lyons as well as his surviving siblings Joseph Earl Lyons, Jr., Valencia Georgette Dickerson, and Teresa Laverne Dickerson and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
