Donald Clyde Swiger, Jr. was born March 30, 1945, in Wallace, WV, to Ella and Donald C. Swiger, Sr. As a young man, Don relocated to Pasadena, MD. A machinist by trade, Don would talk with anyone he encountered and lend a hand to anyone who needed it. At home, he was known for his frequent catchphrases such as "Lord and taters!," Wipe it down extrie good!," or "Talk at you later." In addition, no one who knew Don cannot forget the many times he would break out singing, "Oh lord, it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way!" - a song he delivered with a wink and a smile.
A hardworking man of many talents, Don was a gardener, crabber, fisherman, and hunter. He could hardly wait for his annual hunting and fishing trips with lifelong friends Norbie, Richard, and Phillip. When Don's sons were younger, he also coached Little League with his friend Jerry. Don didn't like to sit still for long. He would often go out piddling around in the garage looking for something to fix or decide to "ride on down the road" to visit someone.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Marian Sissy Swiger; his children: Melissa (Chris) Poole, Kevin (Karen) Swiger, and Keith (Tammy) Swiger; six grandchildren: Josh (Amy), Brandon, Emily (Arthur), Andrew, Kyle, and Kaden; and two great-grandchildren: Grayson and Caroline. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Henry (Bud), and his sisters Charlotte and Ellen.
The Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD is handling the cremation. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Don's name to the Humane Society of Calvert County, 2210 Dalrymple Rd., Sunderland, MD 20589.
