Donnie Jaire Aton was born Donnie Cornelius Gibbs on February 8th, 1971. Although he was
born in Washington, D.C, he was raised in Maryland by his mother Antoinette Clark. He has two
brothers, James (Neal) Henderson II (Kimberly) and Daurelle Crocker. Throughout his life,
Donnie was extremely gifted artistically and spiritually. He earned a scholarship to attend
Norfolk State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Art. At Norfolk State, he founded a
coalition for Christian students on campus and served the Lord by ministering to friends and
family. Donnie continued his educational journey at Virginia Commonwealth University to earn
a Masters Degree in Art Education. In his career, Donnie was a teacher at Seneca Valley High
School in the Montgomery County Public School System for over twenty years.
He was a beloved teacher and he founded the first computer lab for digital art at Seneca Valley
High School. He was an accomplished artist that utilized mixed media to create collages and
manipulated technology in order to create digital art as well. He was honored by several
establishments for his artwork. Donnie wrote and published a book expressing his insights into
the evolution of
music and culture as well. Additionally, he was an incredibly skilled photographer that loved
being behind the camera as much as being in front of it. In all that he pursued, Donnie was
inspired to make an impact and he certainly left an amazing legacy here on Earth. He fathered
three children: Amarri Aton, Tiye Ialiyah Aton, and Jaire Aton and leaves behind an aunt Karen
Clark, an uncle Thomas Clark, a nephew (James Henderson III), nieces (Brianna Henderson,
Michaela Henderson), and a host of relatives and friends. After a long struggle with sickle cell
disease, he passed away due to complications at the age of 53 years old. He joined the Lord in
heaven on March 3rd, 2024.
