Dorelyn Gayle Bennett, affectionately known as “Ms. Gayle”, age 75 of Upper Marlboro, MD, died on August 20, 2014 in Washington, DC.Born in Joliet, Illinois on October 15, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Leta Mae (Parrish) and Robert Henry Clay.Ms. Gayle traveled up all over the country during her younger years because her father’s job involved travel. She met Robert Charles Bennett in Savanah, GA and they married on March 22, 1957.Ms. Gayle worked outside the home as a book-keeper for many years, but her first love was that of her family; her husband, children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and sew. She dedicated many years for the benefit of the American Legion Post 259 and the VFW Post 482. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert Charles Bennett, Sr., her devoted children, Bobby Bennett and his wife Carol of New Kent, VA, Lynn Mendick and her husband David of Hollywood, MD, Russell Bennett and his wife Joanie of Hollywood, MD, Gayle Plumb and her husband Gary of Ashland, VA and Bucky Bennett and his wife Cathy of Huntingtown, MD. She was MeMaw to 19 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of family and friends. We cannot fail to mention the devotion she held for her Chihuahua babies, Slimmy & Luna. Gayle chose to donate her remains for medical education and research. A Celebration of Life will be held privately by the family.
