Dr. James V. Lomax “Bo” died on Monday, December 8th at the age of 85.He was born August 19, 1929 in Iron Station, N.C to James Sr. and Fannie Marie. He received his primary education in Donora, PA. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a radio operator. He attended the University of Pittsburg after leaving the navy, earning a bachelors degree in psychology. He began working at the veteran’s hospital in Pittsburg. He moved to Washington D.C. in 1958 to attend the George Washington University to obtain his Master’s degree. He worked for St. Elizabeth’s Mental Hospital until he received his clearance for the Department of Justice. He began working for the Department of Justice at the D.C. Department of Corrections, Lorton Youth Center. He became the chief psychologist after receiving his doctorate from the George Washington University in 1979. He retired from the department in 1984 and started a group mental health clinic, Change Inc., in 1987 in northeast Washington. He retired from private practice in 1998 to enjoy his favorite activities: horseracing and reading. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Prince Hall Masons and the American Psychological Association. He is survived by his wife, Bonniejean; children: Vivian, Thais and James III; grandchildren: Cassandra, Lucius, Darnell, Russell, Athena and Addison; 4 great grandchildren; a brother: Warren; two nephews and numerous cousins.
