Dr. Manuel J. Ortiz

Dr. Manuel J. Ortiz 1925 - 2014 Dr. Manuel J. Ortiz, 89, of Fort Washington, MD on Friday August 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Puerto Rico he was a son of the late Manuel and Eulalia (Lugo) Ortiz-de la Renta. He was married to Nydia (Santiago) Ortiz. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in September 2013. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He loved to work with wood, dancing, and was very artistic and created numerous sculptures. He was an agronomer for the Puerto Rican government and a ststistician for the US Census Bureau retiring in 1983. Surviving along with his wife are three sons, Fernando Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz (Ana), and Raul Ortiz (Carie), two daughters, Nydia Ivonne Burchinal (Charles) and Lourdes Ortiz, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a sister, Pura Maria Colberg.
