Earl L. Kirkwood of Forestville, Maryland went to be with the Lord on April 14, 2012 at the young age of 79. Earl was born on September 3, 1932 in Willard, Ohio to the late Guy and Jessie Kirkwood. He was preceded in death by siblings Viola Hillis (Roy), Granville (Arlene), Lloyd (Rosemond), and Wade (Mary). He was the beloved husband of 53 years of Mary (Haudenshild Jacobs) Kirkwood and the much loved father of Cheryl Emery (Mike) of Owings, Maryland; Sandy Junker (Dave) of Panama City Beach, Florida; Michael of Waldorf, Maryland; Mark (Linda) of Waldorf, Maryland and Karen Kirkwood of Forestville, Maryland. He was the Grandfather of John Thompson (Alicia) of Laurel, Maryland; Steve Thompson (Angel) of Hagerstown, Maryland; Mike Emery Jr. (Karin) of Richmond, Virginia; Connie Emery of Sterling, Virginia; Shannon & Shaelyn Emery of Owings, Maryland; Doug Junker (Shannan) of Panama City Beach, Florida; Jason Junker (Windy) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Scott Kirkwood of Waldorf, Maryland; Jennifer Kehres (John) of Hughesville, Maryland; Krystal (Mike) of Waldorf, Maryland; Jaimee Reese (Patrick) of King George, Virginia. He was the Great-Grandfather of Linzy, Zoey and Stevie Thompson; Katie and Trent Thompson; Cole Walker; Cooper and Sydney Emery; Brooklyn and Christian Junker; Calli and Kelsey Junker; Lilly and Jessica Reese and Collin Anderson.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Earl resided in Forestville, Maryland for the past 54 years. He retired after many, many years as a programmer in the Payroll Department of the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland. Prior to coming to Maryland, he worked at the Shelby Airforce Depot (Wilkins Airforce Station – Shelby, Ohio). He graduated from Willard High (Willard, Ohio) in 1951. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army and served overseas.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nHe helped to raise Roger, Cindy and Bonnie Haudenshild in their early years, after the untimely death of Mary’s parents. He was very active in helping to raise, in his home, his granddaughter, Jaimee Reese. He was active in the District Heights Boys and Girls Club, crocheted beautiful afghans and baked awesome cakes – including many of his children’s wedding and special occasion cakes. He liked to cook and do crossword puzzles. He was the Treasurer and held other positions in both District Heights Presbyterian (District Heights, Maryland) and Unity Presbyterian Church (Temple Hills, Maryland). He regularly attended and was very active in his Church.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nHe leaves behind not only a large family but many, many friends from his Church and the Community…Until we see you again, Pop…Love you.
