Earline Hunter Butler, 87, died May 4, 2016, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Aljerin L. Butler, Sr.; her parents—James Edward Hunter and Minera Whitted Hunter; and five siblings—Andrew Hunter, Gwendolyn Smith, James Bifea Hunter, Copeland Hunter, and Calvin Hunter. She is survived by her children Cecelia L. Butler, Aljerin L. Butler, Jr. (Lanita Butler, wife) and Teresa Foster; grandchildren Raychon Holt, Kyran Butler, and Alexys Butler; and great-grandson Evan Dickens. She also leaves behind two siblings—Carol Bernice McDonald and Ava Poteat; a brother-in-law Cecil Butler (Ruby Butler, wife); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Earline H. Butler was born March 1, 1929, in Mebane, NC and graduated from Graham High School in was a 1948. In 1949, she married Aljerin L. Butler Sr., and in 1952, they moved to Washington, DC. In 1971, she received a certificate in early childhood development from Martha Washington in Washington, DC. Afterward, she became a teacher at Second New St. Paul Baptist Church. In 1982, when her husband retired from the NSA, they moved back to North Carolina. In 1988, she and her husband joyfully accepted the challenge of full-time parenting again when they took in two of their grandchildren. Earline H. Butler was also devout Christian, having been a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, and later Haymount Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC, where she also sang in the choir. She also loved arts and crafts, and spent many hours crocheting, quilting, and painting ceramics.
