Edwin G. Stone, Sr.

EDWIN GARNET STONEEdwin was 94 years old, and died at Southern Maryland Hospital Center on February 15th.He was born February 18, 1918 and raised in Hyattstown, MD. He had three sisters, Lillian Weisberg, Hazel Sawyer, Belle Crolley and one brother Robert Stone – all deceased.He graduated from Rockville High School in 1935. He also attended Benjamin Franklin University, in Washington, DC, where he took classes in accountancy and graduatedin July, 1948.Edwin worked in Washington, DC before WWII at the Harris Hotel as anelevator operator and bellboy and later at the Benedick Hotel as theirmanager. This is where he met his future wife, Thelma.After serving and coming home from WWII, Edwin met and eventually partnered with Mr. Allen to open a radio and televisionrepair shop -- Allen & Stone Complete Radio and TV Service in District Heights, MD.As that industry changed from tubes and condensers to circuit boards and chips, Edwin became an insurance agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company and remained with them until his retirement in May, 1982. Both Edwin and Thelma enjoyed duckpin bowling and had been part of several different teams at Marlow Heights and Suitland throughout the years.Thelma passed away on January 10, 2011 and since her knuckle-headed sons forgot to have her picture includedalong with her obituary, we have now included a picture of them both. As in life, may they again find each other and be partnered in death.Edwin will be buried beside his wife at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD, on March 4th, at 3:00pm.Edwin is survived by two sons, Edwin Jr. and William, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.Family and friends will be received at Lee Funeral Home on February 20th between 5:00 and 7:00pm,and Pastor Paul Dennis of the Bradburn Memorial Bible Church in District Heights, MD, will perform a brief service passing Edwin from the physicalinto the spiritual realm.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
