Eldie Leon Glaze, 87, of Temple Hills, Maryland passed away unexpectedly in the early morning on March 7, 2022. Leon is survived by his son Michael, of Temple Hills, Maryland; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Jeff Martin, of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren Emma and Joshua. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel and Emma Glaze, of Immokalee, Florida; brother, Cleon Glaze, of Anchorage, Alaska. Leon, as he liked to be called, was born in Nauvo, Alabama. He graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1953. While in high school and for a short while after, he worked bagging groceries at the Kwik Chek. He then went to work as a fingerprint classifier for the FBI in Washington DC.
Leon joined the Air Force in 1954. During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed at Lachlan AFB, San Antonio, TX, Brookes Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX(55), Pine Castle AFB, Orlando, FL(55/56), Harmon Field AFB, Newfoundland, Canada(56/57), Pine Castle (McCoy) AFB, Orlando, FL(57/62), Goose Bay, AFB, Labrador(62/63), Homestead AFB, Homestead, FL(63/67), Minot AFB, Minot, ND(67/70), Plattsburgh AFB, Plattsburgh, NY(70/75), Andrews AFB, Camp Springs, MD(75/77) and retired after 22 years as a MSgt. During his Air Force career he was a medic, surgical assistant and NCOIC of Central Sterile Supply.
Leon met the love of his life, Fay, when they were both in the Air Force stationed in Newfoundland, Canada. They were married on August 30, 1958 in Johnstown, PA. They built a wonderful life together that was fill with love, laughter, ups and downs. They made lifelong friends along the way. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the year before her death in May of 2019.
After retiring from the Air Force, Leon worked for Kloman Medical Supplies, Fairfax, VA(77/79). Then at the request of the commander of Malcolm Grow Medical Center, he went back to Andrews to run the Central Sterile Supply in the hospital(79/82). He started working at the Capital Centre in 1976 and continued with the organization through the move into DC and finally retired for good in 2012…….After retiring for good, he volunteered once a week at the pharmacy on Andrews.
Leon’s favorite thing to do was spend time with his family especially on vacations. Cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. Vacations to Disney, Dollywood, Yellowstone, where he was chased by a bear narrowly escaping, and the Badlands, where he saved Michael from being bitten by a rattlesnake. His favorite vacations as time went on was seeing everybody at the Glaze family reunions which take place every two years.
