December 22, 1919 — March 28, 2012

Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Connors\n \nDecember 22, 1919 - March 28, 2012\n \n \n \n Betty Connors sadly passed away at Cornerstone Hospice on March 28, 2012 at the age of 92. Family lore has Betty starting life as a 1 3/4 pound twin, born at home in Philadelphia in a snowstorm in 1919 to Philip Rudolph and Mae Weis. Although her twin did not survive, Betty did, after having been swaddled and placed in a makeshift incubator--a cigar box placed on the oven door. Betty went on to become a nurse, where she met her husband, Francis Xavier Connors, in Philadelphia. They married just after World War II was declared, and had three children. She spent most of her career as a nurse for a family practitioner in Clinton, Maryland. She was very creative, and was part of many craft groups. Her interests included sewing and she was the family seamstress. She also spent countless hours volunteering for many community organizations including the American Legion and VFW, having served as an officer or active member in each for many years. She was a devout Catholic, and took great comfort in her faith. She was devoted to her family, and extremely proud of being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed relating many stories about each of her family members.\n \n She will be forever missed by her children: daughter Kathryn Maureen Owen and husband Rick, daughter Mary Elizabeth Presta and husband Frank, and son Francis Xavier Connors, Jr. and wife Margaret; 10 Grandchildren: Pam and husband Bob, Kristin and husband Tom, Joe and wife Jill, JoAnne and husband Jim, Kim and husband Edmund, Debbie and husband Nick, Michael, Nathan, Bridgett, and Alyssa; 11 Great-Grandchildren: Meagan, Andy, Tommy, Nicholas, Cecelia, Josie, Cole, Myles, Sofia, Mira and Elena; and by her sister Elsa Helen Lenhart, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.\n \n She touched many lives, and all who met her knew her as a loving and caring person who was generous of spirit.\n \n A memorial service will be held at St. John's Parish in Clinton, Maryland on May 9th at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place immediately following the mass at Resurrection Cemetery.\n \n In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Betty's name to the Cornerstone Hospice, 2445 Park Lane Road, Tavares, FL 32778 or the Poor Clare Monastery, 2505 Stonehedge Drive, Alexandria, VA 22306.
