Elizabeth A. Clagett

April 28, 1922 — November 17, 2014

Peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2014 Elizabeth Llewellyn Allen Clagett passed onto the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. She was the second of three siblings from the marriage of the late George W. and Annie B. Allen. Her sisters, Pearl and Georgeann preceded her to glory. Elizabeth received her formal education within the Public School System of Washington, D.C. and was a graduate of Dunbar High School in the class of 1940. On November 24, 1950, Elizabeth married the late Sylvester F. Clagett at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. From this union three children were born, Michael, Renee, and Kevin Clagett. In her career as a Law Librarian with the Department of Defense, she performed her duties with a high level of independent judgment, initiative, direction, and technical responsibility. She received numerous awards in recognition of her outstanding service. After 39 years of federal service, she retired on the same day as her husband, Sylvester in August 1979. In 1981, she and her husband decided to provide childcare in their home in Clinton, Maryland for young families in the Washington area; this service was provided for 20 years. She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy three devoted children, Michael F., Renee E., and Kevin C. Clagett; three loving granddaughters, Tenia C. Simmons, Karen M. and Danielle D. Tyson. Her nephews, Robert Campbell and Edrick Lucas, her nieces, Helen Brown and Glenita Ray, her godson Herman Preston Jr. and also her extended family Hazel and Sharron Williams, and a host of other relatives and friends. Elizabeth touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. She will be missed. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Elizabeth A. Clagett please visit our Sympathy Store.
